National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme

National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) was launched on 19th August 2016. It is a new scheme of Government of India to promote apprenticeship. This scheme was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently during his recent visit to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The scheme aims to provide apprenticeship training to over 50 lacs youngsters in order to create more jobs opportunities. It has budgetary outlay of approx Rs 10,000 crore.

Components of NAPS

The scheme contains the following two components:

  • Reimbursement of 25% of prescribed stipend subject to a maximum of Rs. 1500/- per month per apprentice by the Government of India to all the employers who engage apprentices.
  • Reimbursement of cost of basic training ( upto a limit of Rs. 7500/- for a maximum of 500 hours/3 months) by the Government of India to Basic Training Providers (BTPs) in respect of apprentices who come directly for the apprenticeship training without any formal training.


The scheme holds following salient features:

  • NAPS is implemented by Director General of Training (DGT) under the aegis of Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
  • Under this scheme, the Central Government for the first time will provide financial incentives to the employers to engage apprentices.
  • Central Government will also share 25% of the total stipend (maximum of 1,500 rupees per month per apprentice) directly payable to an apprentice with employers.
  • In addition, it supports basic training which is considered an essential component of apprenticeship training.
  • The Central Government bear the 50% of the total expenditure incurred on providing basic training to an apprentice.
  • All transactions including registration by employers, apprentices, registration of contract and payment to employers will be made through online mode.


The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) holds the following objectives:

  1. Sharing of stipend with employers to a maximum limit of Rs. 1500 per month per apprentice.
  2. Sharing of Basic Training Cost with Basic Training Providers to a maximum limit of Rs. 7500 for 500 hours/ 3 months per apprentice.

Why NAPS required?

The NAPS is required due to following reasons:

  • To promote apprenticeship training.
  • To incentivize employers who wish to engage apprentices.
  • To increase the engagements of apprentices from present 2.3 lakh to 50 lakh cumulatively by 2020.

Who implement NAPS?

NAPS is implemented by the governmental authorities given below:

  • Regional Directorates of Apprenticeship Training (RDATs) are the implementing agencies for Central Public Sector Undertakings and those private establishments operating in 4 or more States.
  • State Apprenticeship Advisers are the implementing agencies for State Public Sector Undertakings and Private Sectors establishments in their respective States.

Eligibility and Requirements for Employers

Following are the requirements needed for employers to avail the facilities by NAPS:

  1. Employer validation through TIN/TAN and EPFO/ESIC/LIN/ or any other identifier authorized by the government.
  2. Aadhar linked bank account of the employer is also required.

The requirements for basic training providers is as follows:

  1. Government and Private ITI having spare seats (with in overall sanctioned seats) is required.
  2. Establishments with in-house basic training facilities is required.
  3. BTP set up/supported by industry clusters is also required.
  4. Physical verification of basic training facilities by RDAT is needed.
  5. BTP must have Aadhar linked bank account is a must.

Iss yojna m baccho se hard work karaya jata hai.. mai bhe L&T construction m NAPS yojna ke tahat apprentice kar raha hu magar yeha kuch shikhaya nahe ja raha hai balki hamse hard work karaya ja raha hai जबकि इस योजना का मुख्य उद्देश्य है मनीष किल्ड बच्चों को स्किल बनाना यहां पर इसका उल्टा हो रहा है हम लोगों से बहुत कठिन काम करवाया जा रहा है आज तक कुछ भी सिखाया नहीं गया केवल सरिया उठाते हैं क्या इसीलिए यह योजना बनाई गई थी कृपया करके आप से निवेदन है कुछ एक्शन लें
